* Nominated as “Best Supporting Actress” in Mexican Academy Awards (Ariel)

BIOGRAPHY

Alejandra Gollás was the recipient of an Ariel Award nomination as Best Supporting Actress (the Mexican equivalent of an Academy Award) for her role in Side Effects (Efectos Secundarios), the first Warner Brothers' premium feature produced and filmed entirely in Mexico.

Alejandra was born in Mexico City, where she was given a bicultural and bilingual upbringing from her parents: an American mother and a Mexican father.

Her work reflects this personal diversity; it combines elements from both the Latino and American cultures which she experienced growing up. She speaks both English and Spanish without an accent.

She began her career as a child actress on the Mexican stage coming to prominence at age 11 for her acclaimed portrayal of Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. She then went on to star as Annie in the musical Annie and as Mary in The Children's Hour. Alejandra became a national phenomenon playing the featured role of “Adrianita” in the sensationally popular Televisa Soap Opera, Quinceañera.

Alejandra’s English language credits include a co-starring role as Carrie Fisher and Griffin Dunne's daughter in the PBS production Trying Times, directed by Buck Henry; a featured role as Haydee Santamaria in the Hallmark/Showtime production Fidel; as well as roles in Species: The Awakening (MGM)  and The Librarian: The Quest for the Spear(TNT).

In the award winning short Liminal, directed by Stephen Mills, Alejandra won Best Actress Awards at The Tregor Film Festival, The Levante International Film Festival and The Festival Du Film De Strasbourg.

Recent film credits include El Viaje de la Nonna directed by Sebastian “Batan” Silva (1st AD of the Academy Award nominated Babel)31 Dias directed by Erica Grediaga and Pulling Strings directed by Pitipol Ybarra.

Alejandra has continued to refine her skills at various prestigious acting schools in both Mexico and the United States. These have included North Western University, the Stephanie Feury Studio; she also studied privately with CD Melissa Skoff and Ken Lerner. In Mexico Alejandra studied at the Casa del Teatro and Foro de Teatro Contemporáneo.
